Oluwatosin Ayodele, professionally known as MC Tosin, has established herself as a skilled master of ceremonies, event host, and traditional wedding compère in Nigeria. With a background in English and communications, she brings warmth, cultural awareness, and thoughtful preparation to corporate events, conferences, and celebrations. Her approach focuses on understanding each audience and creating experiences that feel engaging, seamless, and true to the occasion.
MC Tosin's journey began in her first year at the University of Ibadan, where she volunteered to host a Freshers' programme for her campus fellowship. The event's success led to referrals, and she went on to host events across campus, often pro bono, as she enjoyed the work and people trusted her with their events. One memorable experience was co-hosting an award night at OAU with an on-air radio personality, which helped her realize that hosting was more than just something she enjoyed; she was good at it.
After university, MC Tosin pursued formal training as a traditional wedding compère, or Alaga, thinking it was similar to being an MC. However, she learned that they are distinct but complementary disciplines. Today, she practises both. Her multicultural background has made her curious about people and attentive to what makes each culture unique. Connecting with an audience means understanding who is in the room and making people feel seen and respected.
MC Tosin's approach to hosting involves paying attention to greetings, traditions, humour, music, and how people expect important moments to be handled. Before an event, she learns about the people and the culture she is stepping into. There is no single approach that works for every audience; she needs to listen and adapt without losing the warmth and energy that make her who she is. Her role is to use her personality, creativity, and experience to bring the client's vision to life.
One challenge MC Tosin faced was showing people that she could work in two complementary spaces: as a professional MC and as an Alaga. She realized she had to show both sides of her work, using videos, reels, and captions to demonstrate her range. She also separated the two expressions of her brand, with MC Tosin and OluwatosinAlaga being distinct but sharing her values and standard of excellence.
MC Tosin emphasizes the importance of visibility in her career, stating that it gives excellence a chance to be recognized. People cannot engage with what they do not know exists. Some of her best clients saw her in action, discovered her page, and connected with her work. Others came through referrals from people who had experienced it firsthand. For her, visibility is more than promoting herself; it means showing up at events, collaborating, supporting local initiatives, and creating content.
MC Tosin is set to moderate Day Two of Media Visibility Camp 6.0, where she will learn from speakers and women in the room. She is excited to gain practical ideas about branding, positioning, and communicating her value so that visibility leads to the right opportunities. She is also looking forward to exchanging ideas with ambitious women and taking practical lessons back to her own work.
