In a significant move to promote professional inclusion, Togo's ProEmploi+ project has provided adaptive equipment to 14 persons with disabilities. The handover ceremony took place on October 30 in Agoè-Nyivé prefecture. The initiative, led by the Togolese Federation of Associations of Persons with Disabilities (FETAPH), aims to support the professional integration of persons with disabilities. The project is implemented with the support of German cooperation through GIZ.
The equipment provided includes ergonomic office furniture, digital materials, orthopedic equipment, and mobility aids such as wheelchairs and canes. These tools are designed to improve working conditions and enable recipients to perform their jobs in an environment adapted to their needs. The ProEmploi+ project focuses on promoting employment for women and vulnerable groups in Togo. FETAPH and GIZ have collaborated to identify individual needs and provide tailored support.
The ceremony also highlighted the process of identifying individual needs, the objectives of workplace adaptation, and the responsibilities of beneficiaries in using, maintaining, and monitoring the equipment. Testimonies, interactive exchanges, and a presentation of the materials marked the event. The representative of the Minister of Solidarity, Fiagbé Nukunu Yaovi Edem, emphasized the importance of providing workers with the necessary means to fully exercise their skills in adapted conditions.
The government of Togo continues to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly in enhancing their access to and retention in employment, as well as their participation in professional life. The provision of adaptive equipment is a personalized response to the needs of beneficiaries, facilitating their job performance. The initiative aligns with the government's efforts to support vulnerable groups in the workforce.
Whbke Ott, head of the ProEmploi+ project, expressed satisfaction with the equipment handover, noting that it will enhance the capacities and performance of recipients in their professional activities. The project aims to strengthen the autonomy and effectiveness of persons with disabilities in their jobs. FETAPH President Akakpo Numado Gratien explained the selection process for beneficiaries, which involved a call for interest and a commission review of applications.
The selection process ensured that beneficiaries were chosen based on established criteria in collaboration with GIZ. Gratien thanked German cooperation for its support and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment provided. The ProEmploi+ project demonstrates a commitment to inclusive employment practices in Togo.
The adaptive equipment provided will enable recipients to overcome physical barriers and perform their jobs more effectively. The initiative sets a precedent for future projects aimed at promoting professional inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Togo. Key stakeholders have praised the collaboration between FETAPH, GIZ, and the Togolese government in implementing the ProEmploi+ project.
