The Togolese National Police has initiated its Open Days, commencing on October 6 in Lomé and several other cities across the country. This event provides the public with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the police institution. The Open Days will take place at the National Police Headquarters in Lomé and in central police stations in various cities, including Tsévié, Kpalimé, Atakpamé, Sokodé, Kara, and Dapaong, until October 8.
The Open Days allow visitors to learn about the history, organization, and operational methods of the National Police, as well as the different units that comprise it. Additionally, information is provided on the conditions and procedures for recruitment into the institution, targeting young individuals interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. This initiative aims to promote transparency and encourage dialogue between the police and the public.
During the Open Days, the public will have the chance to familiarize themselves with certain administrative and technical services offered by the National Police. These services include rapid document legalization and expedited national identity card issuance. A special arrangement has been made in Lomé to enable the collection of national identity cards within 72 hours of submitting the application, subject to specific operational guidelines.
The event seeks to enhance public understanding of police work and foster a closer relationship between the institution and the community. According to the Director-General of the National Police, Commissioner Akatao Babarime, the institution's primary missions include protecting individuals and property, public buildings, and institutions of the Republic, as well as maintaining public order. He emphasized that the police force also aims to prevent delinquency and ensure everyone's safety while respecting laws and individual freedoms.
The Director-General highlighted that the Open Days reflect the National Police's commitment to building trust with the public, promoting a culture of participatory security, and strengthening mutual understanding. By engaging with the community, the police aim to demonstrate their dedication to serving and protecting the public. The Open Days represent a significant step towards achieving this goal.
Various activities have been planned to coincide with the Open Days, including a football match between the Association Sportive de la Police Togolaise (ASPOTO) and Entente II on October 9. A popular jogging event is also scheduled for October 10 at the Groupe d'Intervention de la Police Nationale (GIPN) camp in Logopé. The launch ceremony was attended by the representative of the Minister of Security, Lt-Colonel Dorouwa N'Dafidina.
The Togolese National Police's Open Days will conclude on October 8, having provided a valuable opportunity for the public to engage with the institution and learn about its vital role in maintaining peace and security in the country.
