The Commission nationale des droits de l’homme (CNDH) des Plateaux-Est recently conducted a health awareness campaign in several localities of Atakpamé, Togo, from October 22 to 28. The campaign aimed to educate women on various health issues, particularly breast and cervical cancer. The CNDH team visited various neighborhoods, including Campement 1, Djidja, Sada, Koréma, and Kéta, as well as the Atakpamé civil prison. This initiative aligns with the CNDH's mission to promote and protect human rights.

During the campaign, the CNDH team sensitized women to the warning signs of breast and cervical cancer, as well as other pathologies. They emphasized the importance of early screening and detection. At the Atakpamé civil prison, female inmates benefited from cervical cancer screening. In addition to health-related activities, discussions focused on parental responsibility, highlighting the crucial role parents play in their children's education, protection, and well-being.

Mme Alliassim Falilatou, the head of the CNDH des Plateaux-Est, stressed that health is a fundamental and inalienable right for every citizen, regardless of their situation. She encouraged women to break the taboo surrounding these diseases and adopt good habits in terms of prevention and regular medical consultations. The campaign aimed to empower women to take charge of their health and well-being.

The campaign also received positive feedback from prison authorities. Tchabana Aïda, a prison administrator, noted that the awareness campaign provided valuable support and accompaniment to female inmates, contributing to their health preservation and dignified reintegration into society. The campaign helped to address the specific health needs of women in the region.

The CNDH team's outreach efforts reached various communities, enabling women to access essential health information. By engaging with women in different settings, the campaign promoted a culture of health awareness and encouraged women to prioritize their well-being. The campaign's impact is expected to extend beyond the immediate participants, as they commit to sharing the information with their families and communities.

The campaign's success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of the CNDH team and local authorities. By working together, they were able to reach a larger audience and create a lasting impact. The CNDH's initiative demonstrated the importance of community-based health awareness campaigns in promoting women's health and well-being.

The campaign concluded with a commitment from participants to disseminate the information they received to their families and communities. This will help to sustain the campaign's impact and promote a culture of health awareness in the region.
