The Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, has issued a stern warning to individuals who attempt to introduce illegal mining into the Volta Region, stating they will face swift and ruthless consequences. He made this statement at the Volta Economic Forum in Ho, which was attended by entrepreneurs, traditional rulers, students, and public servants. The forum's theme was "From Opportunity Showcase to Investment Execution."
Togbe Afede emphasized that the Volta Region has people with the technical know-how to manage its natural resources, creating jobs and wealth. He mentioned lithium and iron ore deposits in parts of the region, which could be harnessed with appropriate investments and partnerships to boost the economy. He stressed the need for coordination in the absence of galamsey and unfair political influences.
The Agbogbomefia commended the government for the Big Push roads project, which he believes is creating bright development prospects for all Ghanaians. He urged the people of the Volta Region to renew their sense of patriotism, resist corruption and evil, and instead adopt selflessness, perseverance, love for one another, and honesty to move the region forward.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, in a speech read on his behalf, stated that the Volta Region needs discipline to turn its natural resources into jobs and sustainable incomes. He emphasized the need for partnerships to implement projects and encouraged young people and local businesses to participate through skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Debrah stressed the importance of collaboration among the government, private sector, traditional authorities, communities, financial institutions, development partners, and investors. He believed that the government should provide an enabling environment, while the private sector brings in capital, innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Volta Regional Minister James Gunu highlighted the region's potential for brisk and lucrative undertakings in areas such as agro-processing, tourism, and hospitality. He reiterated that the region is ready to collaborate with investors to unlock its fortunes, emphasizing the need for peace and unity for rapid progress.
The Volta Economic Forum provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss opportunities and challenges in the region. With the right partnerships and investments, the region can harness its natural resources to create jobs and sustainable development, ultimately improving the lives of its citizens.
