The Algerian city of Tizi-Ouzou is set to implement a new traffic plan, aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion. The wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou has been described as a "calm" region, with a low level of crime. The police have reported a 100% resolution rate for cases of public assembly and crimes against public peace.
In 2018, the police treated 1,073 cases of crimes against individuals, with 1,384 individuals implicated. The resolution rate for these cases was 66.48%. The authorities also reported a significant decrease in accidents, with 340 bodily accidents recorded, compared to 412 in 2017. The number of deaths was 10, and 411 people were injured.
The security services are also working to combat cybercrime, with 57 cases reported in 2018, compared to 22 in 2017. Aknouche noted that the complexity of tracing deleted Facebook accounts makes it difficult to resolve these cases. Looking ahead to 2019, Aknouche announced that the security services will continue to work to improve their effectiveness, with a focus on community policing and cooperation with citizens. The long-term goal is to have a security presence in every commune.
