Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is set to launch the 190km railway section from Jaji to Kano on December 3, 2026. This section is part of the Kaduna-Kano railway project, which aims to enhance transportation in Northern Nigeria. According to Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, the project is nearly 90% complete. The railway line will connect major cities, including Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano, providing an alternative transportation route.
The Kaduna-Kano railway project is a significant infrastructure development in Nigeria, with a total length of 203km. Once completed, it will integrate with the existing standard gauge railway line connecting Abuja and Kaduna. The project also includes the Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway line, which spans 400km and is 70% complete. These developments aim to boost economic growth and improve transportation links in the region.
A team from the Federal Government, led by Funso Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, recently inspected the projects on the President's directive. The team expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, particularly the construction of bridges, drainage systems, and land stabilization measures. They also conducted a test run on the railway line from Jaji in Kaduna State to Kano to assess its quality and passenger comfort.
President Tinubu has instructed that outstanding issues related to land ownership disputes and compensation in Kaduna City be resolved urgently. This will enable the completion of the railway line connecting Abuja and Kano. Additionally, the Kano-Maradi railway section, covering 250km from Dawanu to Kano, Kazaure, Daura, and Katsina, will be launched on December 3.
The railway projects are expected to have a positive impact on the regional economy and transportation network. By providing an alternative route, the projects will reduce congestion on existing roads and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. The developments will also create new opportunities for economic growth and development in the region.
The APC Presidential Campaign Council's Dele Alake emphasized that the projects demonstrate the government's commitment to infrastructure development and improving the lives of Nigerians. The council's statement highlights the significance of these projects in promoting economic growth and enhancing transportation links.
With the completion of these railway projects, Nigeria is expected to experience improved transportation networks, enhanced economic growth, and increased connectivity between major cities. The launch of the Kaduna-Kano railway section on December 3 will mark a significant milestone in the country's infrastructure development.
