The Director-General of the City Boy Movement (CBM), Francis Shoga, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu's achievements will earn him a second term in office in the 2027 general elections. Shoga stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja, saying the administration's performance over the past three years would persuade voters to renew the president's mandate. He cited the administration's infrastructure drive, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway.

Shoga highlighted that the government is building the two longest highways in Nigeria's history, alongside rehabilitation and construction works on federal roads across the country. The Federal Ministry of Works said Tinubu commissioned the first 30 kilometres of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on May 31, 2025. The stretch formed part of the 40.7-kilometre section being delivered under Phase One, Section One, while the broader Section One corridor was originally designed to cover about 47.47 kilometres.

Other prominent figures expected to feature in the presidential race include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the People's Redemption Party, and Social Democratic Party presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo. Shoga maintained that, given Tinubu's record in office, many voters would be willing to reward him with a second term.

The CBM director-general said his organisation, which he described as having a strong presence across the six geopolitical zones and 774 local government areas, was targeting 10 million youth votes for the president through grassroots mobilisation across wards, local governments and communities. Shoga pointed to the deployment of 2,000 tractors and other equipment, as well as the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Programme being implemented in partnership with Brazil, as evidence of efforts to mechanise agriculture.

Shoga also cited the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, expansion of cultivated land for rice and wheat, and increased financing for agricultural production as evidence of efforts to address food insecurity through long-term interventions. On investment in the oil and gas sector, he attributed increased investor interest to what he described as a favourable investment climate under Tinubu.

Shoga defended the administration's response to the resulting economic hardship from the removal of the petrol subsidy, pointing to the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative as one of the measures introduced to provide cheaper transportation alternatives. According to him, the programme had encouraged the establishment of vehicle conversion centres and attracted substantial private-sector investment in CNG infrastructure.

Shoga further cited improvements in Nigeria's external reserves, moderation in inflation and a reduction in the debt-service-to-revenue burden as signs that the administration's economic reforms were beginning to yield results. The City Boy Movement's endorsement of Tinubu's second term is a boost to his re-election bid, as the president faces opposition from several prominent figures.
