President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to national development, declaring that his determination to build a prosperous Nigeria has grown stronger following a deeply spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia. The President reflected on his lesser Hajj (Umrah), during which he was granted the rare privilege of entering the Holy Ka'abah in Makkah to offer prayers. He noted that his supplications centred on seeking divine wisdom and resilience to continue serving the country.
In a statement issued on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed profound gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for granting him and the Nigerian delegation access to the sacred site. The President described the experience as historic and deeply cherished, noting that the gesture underscores the long-standing friendship, mutual respect, and diplomatic cooperation between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu disclosed that his prayers inside the sacred structure centered on obtaining the strength to govern effectively, expressing absolute confidence that his supplications had been answered. He recalled his previous Umrah pilgrimage ahead of the 2023 presidential election, during which he had prayed for Allah's blessings and promised to return to express gratitude once elected.
Drawing from Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur'an, Tinubu emphasized that political power is a divine trust that must be exercised with humility, responsibility, and dedication to public welfare. He described his emergence as Nigeria's leader as a special blessing from Almighty Allah, stressing that the privilege came with an enormous responsibility to serve the entire nation.
The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to national development, saying he remains determined to pursue tough but necessary policies and programmes that will promote prosperity, strengthen the economy, and advance the aspirations of citizens. On the economy specifically, Tinubu voiced strong optimism, asserting that the economic reforms introduced by his administration are yielding tangible results and averting fiscal collapse.
Tinubu underscored that securing a prosperous future for the country relies heavily on empowering next-generation leaders. He urged today's policymakers to prioritize human capital development and youth empowerment. The high-powered Nigerian delegation accompanying the President on the spiritual journey included the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and prominent leaders from the private sector.
The business executives expressed their profound appreciation to Almighty Allah for the spiritual milestone and thanked the President for the opportunity to join the historic delegation inside the Holy Ka'abah to offer prayers for national peace and economic stability. With a renewed sense of purpose, Tinubu is set to continue implementing policies aimed at driving Nigeria's growth and development.
