Three suspects, Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai, have appeared in court in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Nana Yaw Kyere, a 33-year-old mobile phone dealer. They were brought before the Teshie District Court in Accra on Monday, September 28, 2026, following investigations by the Ghana Police Service Missing Persons Unit. The suspects have been remanded as investigations continue into the alleged abduction, killing, and subsequent disposal of Kyere's remains.
According to the Police, Kyere, who operated as a mobile phone dealer around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area of Accra, was reported missing on September 22 after leaving his residence at Kokomlemle three days earlier. Preliminary findings released by the Police indicate that he departed his home on September 19 in his Honda Civic vehicle but failed to return. Investigators subsequently established that Kyere had allegedly been lured to the residence of Tefe at Teshie Agbleza by Adams.
The Police said that both Tefe and Adams later confessed to their alleged involvement in the incident, although the details contained in the preliminary account remain subject to further investigation and judicial determination. According to the Police account, Tefe allegedly became involved in a confrontation with Kyere after the latter arrived at the residence and struck him with a metallic object, causing injuries. Kyere was then allegedly moved into another room, where he was left unattended and subsequently died.
Investigators say the events that followed involved an attempt to conceal the death and dispose of the body. The Police have indicated that Kyere's body was allegedly placed inside a Kia Morning vehicle and transported on September 20 to an area close to the motorway, where it was reportedly abandoned in a bush and set ablaze. The partially burnt remains were discovered at Community 18 on September 21, according to the Police.
Kyere's biological mother and an uncle subsequently identified the remains at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24, bringing confirmation to the family that the missing phone dealer had died. The investigation has also produced a significant lead involving Kyere's mobile phone. Police say they recovered his iPhone 12 after tracing the device to a buyer identified as Sunday Omeje.
Investigators allege that Tefe sold the phone for GH¢100 after Kyere's death. Omeje has subsequently been cautioned and detained while the Police investigate allegations that he dishonestly received the device. The recovery of the phone has become another element of the investigation as detectives continue to reconstruct the movements of the suspects and determine what happened to Kyere before and after his death.
Further investigative work also led to the arrest of Obodai, who is being questioned over the alleged disposal of Kyere's body. Police have impounded a Kia Morning vehicle belonging to Obodai's father because investigators believe the vehicle may have been used to transport the body. The three principal suspects remain in Police custody as investigators pursue additional evidence and seek to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged crime.
