In a recent crackdown on drug supply points, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) arrested three people in Nairobi's Jericho estate. The arrests were made on Friday at a residential block within the estate, following an intelligence tip-off about a suspected bhang distribution point. NACADA officers conducted a thorough search of a two-bedroom house, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of suspected bhang.

According to NACADA, the search of the house yielded 936 brown rolls of dry plant material and 66 red rolls stored in a black polythene bag, totaling 1,002 rolls of suspected bhang. Additionally, officers recovered a bunch of keys from the house's store, which are now part of the investigation. The three occupants of the house were arrested at the scene and taken to Jogoo Road Police Station, where they were booked under OB No. 39/30/10/2026.

NACADA Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa stated that the raid was a clear message to those involved in the drug trade, emphasizing that they have nowhere to hide. He noted that the operation was intelligence-led, with information coming from residents who are concerned about the impact of drugs on their families. Omerikwa expressed gratitude to these residents and urged all Kenyans to continue speaking out against drug abuse.

Omerikwa further emphasized that the crackdown on drug supply points is an ongoing effort, with NACADA working closely with the National Police Service to pursue every link in the supply chain. He highlighted that bhang remains one of the most commonly abused drugs in the country and that targeting supply points at the street level is a central part of NACADA's strategy.

The raid in Jericho estate demonstrates how drug traffickers often operate in ordinary family neighborhoods, close to schools, markets, and other areas where young people gather. NACADA's efforts aim to disrupt these operations and prevent the distribution of drugs to vulnerable populations. The authority's strategy involves taking a proactive and multi-faceted approach to addressing drug abuse.

The three arrested individuals are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday next week. NACADA's operation in Jericho estate is part of a broader effort to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Kenya. The authority's work involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, community members, and other organizations.

The seizure of 1,002 rolls of suspected bhang in Jericho estate is a significant blow to drug traffickers operating in the area. NACADA's continued efforts to disrupt drug supply points and arrest those involved in the trade are crucial in the fight against drug abuse in Kenya. The authority's work aims to create safer communities and prevent the harm caused by drug abuse.
