On Thursday, October 1, 2026, three individuals, including a woman, were arrested in connection with flying drones over the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Ghana. The incident occurred while Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah was at the EOCO headquarters to assist with an ongoing investigation. According to reports, the drones remained over the EOCO premises for several minutes before officials moved in and arrested the suspects.
The incident happened less than a day after an Accra High Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. On Wednesday, September 30, the court authorised EOCO to arrest the legislator after the agency told the court that attempts to secure his voluntary attendance had failed. The court also granted EOCO permission to search for and seize documents believed to be relevant to its investigation.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah appeared voluntarily before EOCO on Thursday, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea. The MP had been invited by EOCO twice in February 2026 but allegedly failed to honour the invitations. However, the MP disputed this claim, stating that the invitations were sent to his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans.
According to Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, representatives of his former law firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and submitted the information requested by investigators, including a written statement. The investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited. EOCO is investigating suspected financial loss, the alleged dissipation of public funds and possible money laundering.
The circumstances surrounding the drone flights are also being investigated. The allegations against Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah and the three drone suspects have not been established in court. The incident has raised concerns about the security and integrity of investigations being conducted by EOCO.
EOCO had earlier attempted to arrest Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23. The agency is working to establish the facts surrounding the drone incident and the alleged involvement of the MP in the suspected financial transactions. Further investigations are expected to shed more light on the matter.
The three suspects arrested in connection with the drone incident are currently being held for further questioning. The incident has sparked widespread interest, with many Ghanaians calling for transparency and accountability in the investigation.
