Segilola Resources Operating Limited, the Nigerian subsidiary of Thor Explorations Ltd, has launched initiatives to support community development in Osun State. The 2026 Segilola Women Initiative Programme and the SROL Gold Scholarship Programme aim to empower women entrepreneurs and students across its host communities. 96 beneficiaries from Iperindo, Odo-Ijesha, and Imogbara communities received support to strengthen livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.
The Segilola Women Initiative Programme provided equipment to 30 women entrepreneurs to increase productivity and build sustainable income sources. Beneficiaries received freezers, sewing and stoning machines, digesters, multi-purpose grinders, gas burners, and cooler sets tailored to their businesses. Three previous beneficiaries also received additional equipment to upscale their businesses.
The programme's impact was evident in the upgraded equipment received by beneficiaries. A woman in Iperindo was upgraded from a domestic sewing machine to an industrial sewing machine. In Odo-Ijesha, a beneficiary diversified her processing business with a flour and maize grinder. In Imogbara, weaving and button-cover machines were added to an existing sewing business.
Since its launch in 2021, the Segilola Women Initiative Programme has supported over 200 women across the host communities. The programme provides practical tools and equipment to promote financial independence and greater participation in the local economy. Beneficiaries like Adesuyi Titilope Elizabeth appreciate the programme's impact on their livelihoods.
Alongside the women empowerment programme, Thor Explorations awarded scholarships to 63 students from its host communities. The SROL Gold Scholarship Programme recognises outstanding academic performance and supports students to further their education. Top-performing students received laptops and learning devices to encourage continued academic excellence.
The 2026 awards were presented at ceremonies held on August 20 at the Iperindo Community New Town Hall. Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, Community Development and Stakeholder Manager, emphasised the importance of initiatives that address community needs and promote long-term growth and self-reliance.
