The University of Nazi Boni's School of Doctoral Sciences and Techniques (ED/ST) recently launched the third edition of the Workshop on Complex Systems Modeling in Bobo-Dioulasso. The event, themed "Interdisciplinary Approaches in Complex Systems Modeling: Challenges, Methods, and Impacts for Endogenous Development, Security, and Resilience in the Sahel," will run from September 24 to 26, 2026. This scientific gathering brings together researchers, teachers, and students to discuss complex phenomena and apply scientific tools to address societal challenges.

The workshop focuses on complex systems, which comprise numerous interacting components, often in a non-linear manner. These systems require a multidisciplinary approach to analyze and understand. Over 70 scientific communications are scheduled during the three-day event, supplemented by a keynote conference, plenary conferences, oral presentations, practical sessions, and thematic roundtable discussions. The discussions will revolve around four main axes: interdisciplinary modeling of biological and ecological systems, optimization, control, and socio-economic and industrial systems.

According to the President of the Organizing Committee, Professor Boureima Sangaré, the workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. He emphasized that complex systems require a multidisciplinary approach to provide concrete and satisfactory solutions. The event brings together experts from various fields, including mathematics, computer science, biology, ecology, physics, and engineering, to share experiences and promote collaboration.

This edition of the workshop is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Mahamadou Belem, a key initiator of this scientific dynamic at the University of Nazi Boni, who passed away on December 16, 2025. The President of the Organizing Committee paid tribute to Dr. Belem, describing him as a scientist deeply committed to research, knowledge transmission, and collaboration. An attestation was awarded posthumously to his family in recognition of his contribution to the university community.

The University of Nazi Boni's President, Professor Hassan Bismarck Nacro, welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of this edition, which serves as both a scientific forum and a tribute to Dr. Mahamadou Belem. He praised Dr. Belem's vision and investment in promoting interdisciplinary modeling and simulation research. The President also expressed condolences to Dr. Belem's family and acknowledged their presence at the ceremony.

The workshop aims to strengthen participants' theoretical and numerical skills, disseminate fundamental and applied research results, and promote high-impact collaborative projects. The event is expected to facilitate the emergence of innovative solutions to address complex societal challenges. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the workshop seeks to contribute to the development of endogenous solutions for sustainable development, security, and resilience in the Sahel region.

The University of Nazi Boni reaffirms its commitment to promoting open and collaborative research through this workshop. The event provides a platform for researchers, students, and professionals to engage in scientific discussions, share knowledge, and explore new avenues for collaboration. By paying tribute to Dr. Mahamadou Belem, the university acknowledges his legacy and the impact of his work on the scientific community.
