Merrianne Jessop was born on 3 July 1994 in the United States. Her story became central to Warren Jeffs' criminal prosecution and drew global attention to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' (FLDS) practice of underage marriage. The FLDS is a fundamentalist Mormon splinter group that practises polygamy. Jeffs led the sect as its self-declared prophet until his arrest in 2006.

Merrianne Jessop's family background is deeply rooted in the FLDS Church. Her father, Merril Jessop, was a senior FLDS bishop who oversaw the YFZ Ranch in Texas. He had six wives and approximately 54 children before his death on 28 February 2022 at age 86. Her mother, Barbara Jessop, was Merril's third wife. The family relocated to the YFZ Ranch in 2003, when Merrianne was nine years old.

Merrianne Jessop married Warren Jeffs on 27 July 2006, exactly three weeks after her twelfth birthday. The ceremony was held at the YFZ Ranch and presided over by her own father. Jeffs, then 50, was an extended relative and leader within the community. The marriage was framed by the FLDS as a spiritual union, but court evidence later established it was sexual in nature.

Warren Jeffs had been placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list in May 2006 for arranging illegal child marriages. He was arrested on 28 August 2006 near Las Vegas, Nevada, after a routine traffic stop. In 2011, Jeffs was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and sexual assault of a minor. The two victims were Merrianne, aged 12 at the time of her marriage, and Veda Keate, aged 14.

After Jeffs' arrest, Merrianne was initially placed in state foster care before guardianship was later transitioned. By August 2009, reports noted her return associated with the YFZ Ranch property ecosystem. Merrianne Jessop is now 32 years old and believed to be living in Texas. Since her involvement in Jeffs' prosecution, she has maintained a private life.

Warren Jeffs is currently serving a life sentence plus 20 years at the Louis C. Powledge Unit in Palestine, Texas. His earliest parole eligibility date is 22 July 2038. Despite imprisonment, Jeffs reportedly continues to issue edicts to FLDS followers. In August 2026, Axios reported on the lasting impact of Jeffs' prosecution on polygamy legislation in Utah and Texas.

The Netflix docuseries Trust Me: The False Prophet also reignited public interest in the FLDS in 2026, documenting how the sect's practices have continued even in Jeffs' absence. A 2026 edict purportedly distributed by Jeffs' son Helaman Jeffs read; Pray that Warren Jeffs will go free, and he can meet you in your congregations soon. No new confirmed news about Merrianne Jessop personally has emerged in 2026.
