The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya is marking 60 years of protecting and advancing the teaching profession with a nationwide run. The event, dubbed TSC Run 2026, will take place simultaneously across the commission's eight regions on September 27. The event is part of activities leading up to the national World Teachers' Day celebrations scheduled for October 5 at the Kasarani in Nairobi.
The nationwide run will offer participants a choice between a 10km and 5km race. Registration and arrival for the event are scheduled to begin at 5:30 am, followed by the opening prayer and national anthem at 6 am. Welcome remarks will be made by a commissioner assigned to each particular region. Participants will then undertake warm-up stretches under the guidance of a physiotherapist. The 10km race will be flagged off at 6:45 am, followed by the 5km race at 7 am.
The run will take place across the commission's regional headquarters in various parts of the country. In Nairobi, the event will be held at Nyayo National Stadium, while participants in Nakuru will gather at Afraha Stadium. Other regions and their respective venues include the Coast region at Treasury Square in Mombasa, Nyanza at St Michael Kanyakwar Comprehensive School in Kisumu, and the Central region at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri.
The Eastern region event will be held at Kangaru Girls High School in Embu, while participants in Western will gather at Kakamega Senior School. The North Eastern region will host the event at Garissa Secondary School, and Moi Girls High School in Eldoret will be the venue for the Upper Rift Valley region. TSC commissioners will lead the activities in the various regions, accompanied by designated directors from the commission's headquarters.
Medical support will be available throughout the event, with St John Ambulance providing first aid and medical services in all the regions. The day's activities will conclude with recognition of outstanding participants, closing remarks, and a vote of thanks before participants depart. This event is themed "Standing with teachers, 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures."
The nationwide run comes as Kenya prepares to join other countries in marking World Teachers' Day, which provides an opportunity to recognize the contribution of teachers to education and society.
