Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman have signed new agreements to enhance cooperation in the media sector. The agreements, signed on October 1, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, aim to promote the exchange of experience, skills, and professional training for journalists and media professionals from both countries. This development is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for Tanzania and Oman.

The Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) has also signed an agreement with the Oman Journalists Association to foster professional cooperation between media practitioners in the two countries. This agreement is expected to promote the sharing of knowledge, expertise, and best practices in journalism. The agreements were signed during the Tanzania-Oman Journalists’ Forum, which brought together government officials, media leaders, and stakeholders from both countries.

Ambassador Abdallah Kilima, Director of the Middle East Department at Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, has urged journalists from both countries to use their professional skills to produce and disseminate accurate information. This, he said, would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and creating opportunities for Tanzania and Oman. Kilima also emphasized the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve news production and build safer societies.

The media plays a crucial role in promoting tourism, highlighting investment opportunities, and encouraging positive social values, according to Ambassador Kilima. He made these remarks while opening the Tanzania-Oman Journalists’ Forum in Dar es Salaam. The forum provides a platform for journalists from both countries to engage with each other and explore areas of cooperation.

Mussa Juma, Chairman of the Tanzania Union of Media Workers (JOWUTA), said the forum was established on the foundation of the long-standing and friendly relations between Tanzania and Oman. The platform, he said, would provide journalists from both countries with an opportunity to exchange experiences, enhance their professional skills, and promote cooperation in areas such as tourism and investment.

The Tanzania-Oman Journalists’ Forum was attended by high-profile officials, including Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Saud bin Hilal Al Shidhani, and Chairman of the Oman Journalists Association Board, Dr Mohamed Mubarak. The forum provided a unique opportunity for stakeholders from both countries to engage with each other and explore ways to strengthen media cooperation.

The new agreements and the Tanzania-Oman Journalists’ Forum demonstrate the commitment of Tanzania and Oman to strengthening cooperation in the media sector. The exchange of experience, skills, and knowledge is expected to promote mutual understanding and benefit both countries. Key stakeholders are optimistic about the potential of these agreements to enhance media cooperation and promote bilateral relations.
