In the Tanganyika province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, 80 displaced women and girls have received assistance from the Initiative des Femmes Autochtones Pygmées pour la Paix et le Développement Endogène dans les provinces du Sud-Kivu et du Tanganyika (IFAPPDE). The assistance, which includes food and essential household items, was provided on October 3, 2026, in the commune of Kalemie. The initiative aims to support women and girls who have been displaced by conflict and are facing difficult living conditions.

The assistance provided by IFAPPDE, with financial support from the African Women Development Fund (AWDF), includes items such as flour, palm oil, empty jugs, cooking pots, salt, and rice. These items are intended to help the beneficiaries meet their daily survival needs. The distribution took place in the Katanika neighborhood of Kalemie, specifically targeting women and girls living in difficult conditions at the Kikongo site.

In addition to distributing assistance, IFAPPDE also conducted sensitization sessions on the prevention and fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and cohabitation. The sessions were led by Madame Daniellah Salama, head of the IFAPPDE office. The beneficiaries were educated on the importance of protecting themselves and their communities from GBV and promoting peaceful coexistence.

According to Madame Daniellah Salama, despite the efforts made, the needs of the displaced women and girls in the Kikongo site remain enormous. The site is facing significant challenges, including protection risks, hunger, and poverty. IFAPPDE is calling on partners and donors to provide further assistance to address these needs.

The beneficiaries of the assistance have expressed their gratitude to IFAPPDE and its partners for the support. They reported that they were struggling to access basic necessities, but the assistance has helped alleviate their suffering. The beneficiaries have praised IFAPPDE for its efforts to improve their living conditions.

The initiative by IFAPPDE aims to provide rapid response to the humanitarian and protection needs of displaced women and girls in the Tanganyika province. The project also seeks to promote the empowerment and well-being of women and girls in the region. The assistance provided is a temporary solution to the challenges faced by the beneficiaries, but it is expected to have a positive impact on their lives.

The distribution of assistance by IFAPPDE is part of a broader effort to address the humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The country has been facing significant challenges, including conflict, displacement, and poverty. The initiative by IFAPPDE highlights the importance of supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls, in their efforts to rebuild their lives.
