The Tanzania Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Authority (TAKUKURU) is set to complete the construction of 93 office buildings across the country by July 2027. This is part of the institution's strategy to decentralize its services and bring them closer to the people. The initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of TAKUKURU's services to Tanzanians.
The TAKUKURU Director General, Crispin Chalamila, announced this during the launch of a new office building in Karatu, Arusha region. The building was constructed at a cost of TSH 405 million, down from the initial budget of TSH 421 million. Chalamila attributed the cost reduction to the emphasis on value for money in public project implementation.
The government has been supporting TAKUKURU with funds for infrastructure development and training to enhance the capacity of its staff. By 2030, the institution aims to have an office building in every district across the country, equipped with the necessary facilities to effectively carry out its mandate. This move is expected to facilitate the delivery of TAKUKURU's services to the public.
The investment in TAKUKURU's infrastructure is not limited to office buildings; it also involves strengthening the institution's operations and investigation departments. This enhancement aims to increase the effectiveness of TAKUKURU's efforts in preventing and combating corruption. The institution has also introduced education on patriotism, integrity, and anti-corruption in school curricula.
The introduction of anti-corruption education in schools aims to instill in students the importance of integrity and the negative impacts of corruption. TAKUKURU is also promoting the establishment of anti-corruption clubs in schools, colleges, and religious institutions to engage the public in the fight against corruption.
The Karatu district office building was launched after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The building was constructed within six months, from February to August 2026. The Arusha region currently has four TAKUKURU office buildings, and the institution obtained the land for the Karatu office in 2012.
The Karatu District Commissioner, Lameck Karanga, welcomed the new office building, noting that it will improve the delivery of TAKUKURU's services in the district. The TAKUKURU Arusha Regional Commander, Zawadi Ngailo, highlighted that the construction of the building was carried out within the specified timeframe and procurement procedures.
