The annual Volunteer Appreciation Function by TAFTA, held at Glenashley Preparatory School on September 14, 2026, brought together approximately 240 older volunteers from 11 TAFTA buildings and three community clubs. The event's theme, 'Sparkle and Shine for Sisonke', was embraced by the volunteers, who dressed in sequins, metallics, glitter, and shimmer. Shamam also emphasised the significance of volunteering as a powerful expression of active ageing. It enables older people to remain involved, exercise leadership, and continue shaping their communities. During the celebration, the volunteers enjoyed a vibrant performance titled 'Through the Ages', which explored music from different eras alongside significant milestones in human civilisation. The learners from Glenashley Preparatory School gave their best throughout the production, combining humour, music, and impressive talent to take the audience on a memorable journey through time.
Following the performance, the volunteers received refreshments and spent time together before each being given a miniature potted succulent from TAFTA. The gift carried a meaningful message: thank you for helping us grow. This gesture reflected the spirit of TAFTA's 2026 campaign – 'Sisonke', meaning 'We Are Together', which aligns with Glenashley Preparatory School's motto, 'Together We Prosper'.
