A recent survey conducted by Global Info Analytics has ranked Mr. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, as the highest-rated Regional Minister in Ghana. The survey, which evaluated the effectiveness of regional leadership in driving community development and structural progress, assessed the performance of 16 Regional Ministers. It focused on public perception and approval of governance strategies aimed at enhancing regional transformation across Ghana.
The survey, conducted between September 1 and September 22, 2026, saw Mr. Gunu score an impressive 77 per cent approval rating among the 8,951 Ghanaians aged 16 and above who were interviewed. This recognition reflects Mr. Gunu’s continued commitment to regional transformation, infrastructure expansion, and collaborative governance. His high rating indicates a strong public perception of his performance as the Volta Regional Minister.
Mr. Gunu attributed his high rating to his hard work and dedication to his role. He noted that the recognition served as both a profound motivation and a significant challenge. He emphasized that it was motivating because his efforts had been formally acknowledged, yet challenging because it demanded that he do even more to drive development across the Volta Region.
The Minister dedicated the recognition to the chiefs and people of the Volta Region, while calling for their continued collaboration to accelerate progress and growth. He emphasized that the honour would guide his efforts as he continued to pursue his three-point development agenda for the region. This agenda likely focuses on key areas of development that are crucial to the region's growth.
Following Mr. Gunu, the Regional Ministers of Western and Northern regions secured the second and third spots, with approval ratings of 72 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively. The survey also revealed that eight out of the sixteen regional ministers received performance ratings above 50 per cent. This suggests that while some Regional Ministers are performing well, others have room for improvement.
Conversely, the Western North Region was recorded as the lowest-performing region, with its Minister scoring 33 per cent. In contrast, the Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, recorded a 66 per cent public rating, placing fifth among Ghana’s 16 regions in the poll’s assessment. This rating is eight percentage points above the reported national average of 58 per cent.
The survey assessed respondents’ perceptions of the performance of their respective Regional Ministers, with responses categorized as “Excellent,” “Very Good/Good,” “Average,” “Poor/Very Poor,” and “No Opinion.” The results provide valuable insights into public perception of Regional Ministers' performance and can inform future governance strategies.
