Some political groups in Rivers State have thrown their support behind President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid and the candidates of the Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. The groups, including the Rivers State Door-To-Door Movement and Non-Indegenes Without Borders, made the endorsement during the unveiling of the Rainbow Coalition candidates in Port Harcourt. They pledged to work towards ensuring victory for the coalition's candidates.
The Rivers State Door-To-Door Movement has set up its network across all electoral units in the state and has established its presence across the 23 local government areas. The group's coordinator, Mr. Rayman ThankGod, said they are committed to grassroots mobilization and are prepared to intensify their efforts to promote the coalition's agenda. He added that the group has been in existence before the campaign's official commencement and is ready to reach out to communities across the state.
Mr. ThankGod stated that the group's activities are being financed by himself and that they have not received support from any quarters. He argued that four years might not be sufficient to demonstrate the full impact of President Tinubu's administration policies and projects, stressing that the administration should be given more time to implement its plans for national development.
Hon. Eunice Obire, National Leader of Non-Indigenes Without Borders, described the coalition as a welcome development, noting that it has brought people from different political parties together in support of a common political direction. She said the alliance could promote unity and development in Rivers State and pointed to the turnout at the gathering as evidence of public interest in the movement.
Hon. Obire maintained that cooperation among the participating political parties could strengthen their collective electoral prospects, arguing that unity would give the coalition an advantage over parties contesting independently. She added that the coalition is not limited to the presidential election but extends to other elective positions, including governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives seats.
The Rainbow Coalition is seeking to consolidate support across political groups in Rivers State ahead of the forthcoming elections. However, the extent to which the alliance will influence voting patterns and electoral competition remains to be seen. The coalition's candidates will face competition from other political parties in the state.
In a related development, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has charged traditional rulers in the state to maintain neutrality, ensure fairness, and uphold peace in their domains as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. He gave the charge while declaring open the 126th, 127th, and 128th Combined Quarterly Meeting of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt.
