SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc has announced the appointment of Michael Uchenna Chukwu as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective September 2026. Chukwu brings over four decades of experience in banking, taxation, corporate governance, and investment management. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Assetswise Capital Ltd, a private equity investment firm he has led since 2007.
Chukwu has a distinguished career in the financial sector, having served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Spring Bank Plc from 2005 to 2007. During his tenure, he oversaw the merger of six banks that created the lender. Prior to joining Spring Bank, Chukwu held senior positions at several financial institutions, including ACB International Bank, First Atlantic Bank, UBA, FCMB, and Citizens International Bank.
In addition to his banking experience, Chukwu served as Executive Chairman of the Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Board between 2019 and 2020. He is a Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Management of Nigeria, and Institute of Directors Nigeria.
SUNU Assurances has also announced the appointment of TAC Professional Services as its new external auditor, following the retirement of SIAO Partners after completing the maximum eight-year tenure permitted under the National Insurance Commission’s Corporate Governance Guidelines 2021. SIAO Partners completed the audit of SUNU Assurances’ 2025 financial year.
TAC Professional Services was ratified as the new auditor by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting held on 21 August, 2026. The firm, established in 1999, provides a range of services, including audit and assurance, tax advisory, financial and business advisory, forensic investigation, and accounting services.
TAC Professional Services has experience across various sectors, including insurance, financial services, oil and gas, manufacturing, telecommunications, and real estate. The firm is also a member of Integra International, a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms. TAC and its partners are registered with relevant professional and regulatory bodies in Nigeria.
The appointments of Chukwu and TAC Professional Services are expected to strengthen SUNU Assurances’ governance and financial reporting. The company disclosed the changes in separate notices to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and shareholders dated 21 September, 2026.
