Sunbelt Building Supplies Limited, headquartered in Kitwe, Zambia, is a well-established building materials company operating a retail and wholesale network across the Copperbelt Province. The company is expanding into industrial manufacturing and is seeking a highly competent, analytical, and resilient Senior/General Ledger (GL) Accountant. The successful candidate will take full ownership of the company’s financial records and lead the optimization of day-to-day accounting functions across all branches.
The General Ledger Accountant/Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger, performing complex month-end and year-end closing procedures, and ensuring rigorous daily bank reconciliations and cash flow balancing across all retail outlets. The candidate will also implement strict internal controls regarding inventory management.
In terms of taxation and statutory compliance, the successful candidate will manage full compliance with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), ensuring accuracy in tracking invoices via the Smart Invoice system. The candidate will prepare and submit monthly VAT returns, ensuring proper reconciliation of input and output VAT, and manage CIT, WHT, NAPSA, and workers' compensation returns.
The General Ledger Accountant/Senior Accountant will also be responsible for historical records reconstruction and audit coordination. The candidate will act as the primary internal counterpart for contracted international accounting firms to reconstruct, reconcile, and clean up historical accounting records from previous financial years.
To qualify for the position, candidates must be registered members of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) at the Licentiate or Professional level and hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA Professional. A minimum of 4-6 years of solid experience as a General Ledger Accountant or Senior Accountant is required, with direct experience in reconstructing messy financial records and dealing with complex ZRA tax audits or reconciliations being highly preferred.
The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency in mainstream accounting software, such as Sage, QuickBooks, Pastel, or equivalent ERP systems, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
