Egyptian Suez Canal Authority Chairman, Osama Rabie, witnessed the launch and handover of new maritime units at the Red Sea shipyard in Safaga. The ceremony was attended by Red Sea Governor, Dr. Walid El-Barki, and Mustafa El-Djishi, Chairman of the shipyard's board of directors. The launch is in line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to localize the manufacture of maritime units. The new units include two tugboats and a tourist boat.
The two tugboats, named "Azm", have a force of 90 tons and were built at the Egyptian factory. Each tugboat is 32 meters long, 13.5 meters wide, and has a draft of 6 meters. They can reach a speed of 12 knots. The tourist boat, named "Bahr", was built at the Suez Canal Modern Boats factory and can carry 15 passengers. It is 17 meters long, 5 meters wide, and can reach a speed of 21 knots.
The launch also included the final testing of two export tugboats of the "Azm" type. These will be handed over to the Italian company, NERI. The Suez Canal Authority is working to expand its efforts to localize the manufacture of various maritime units. This is being done through the establishment of integrated industrial communities that meet the requirements and needs of the Suez Canal and Egyptian ports.
Chairman Osama Rabie also opened the new administrative building at the shipyard, which covers an area of 1110 square meters. The building includes administrative offices, a conference room, and a dining room. He also inspected the construction of the free industrial zone for the Suez Canal Modern Boats company. The zone will cover an area of approximately 50,000 square meters and will include three factories.
During his visit, Chairman Osama Rabie met with an Omani delegation that was visiting the shipyard to learn about its maritime unit construction activities. The delegation expressed positive impressions of Egypt's industrial development and its competitive position in the region. They also expressed their desire to transfer a positive image of the Omani company's management.
