The government of Gezira state in Sudan has initiated a new market aimed at reducing living costs for its citizens. The market, which is being held at the Gezira Club in the city of Madani, features 60 sales windows offering a range of goods from various companies and factories. This effort is part of the state's strategy to alleviate the financial burden on its residents. The market was inspected by the Wali (Governor) of Gezira, Professor Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair.

The market, which has entered its fifth day, is a collaborative effort between the state government and several major companies operating in the food supply and consumer goods sectors. Participating companies include Dal Food, Al-Baraka, Al-Sharif factories, and others. These companies are offering a variety of products, including food items and household essentials. The market aims to provide citizens with access to essential goods at discounted prices.

According to Dr. Harith Mustafa Sheikh, Director of the General Administration of Trade and Electronic Commerce Chamber at the Ministry of Finance in Gezira state, the market will operate for 30 days. He mentioned that basic services such as water and electricity have been ensured to facilitate smooth operations. The market's organization and the variety of goods on offer have attracted a significant number of citizens.

Dr. Sheikh highlighted that the market offers several goods at prices lower than those in the regular market. For instance, a 5-kilogram bag of sugar is priced at 30,000 Sudanese pounds in the market, compared to 35,000 pounds outside. Other goods are also available at discounted prices, making the market an attractive option for residents looking to save on their expenses.

In addition to the current market in Madani, there are plans to open more discounted sales sites within the city, including the Al-Dabbagha area and the city center. Furthermore, preparations are underway to organize similar markets in the eight localities of Gezira state, once basic services are in place. This expansion aims to make the discounted goods accessible to a broader population.

The initiative has received a positive response from citizens, who are taking advantage of the lower prices on essential goods. The market also features a companion program, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. The government's effort to engage with the private sector and local businesses has been crucial in making this market a reality.

The discounted market in Gezira state is part of a broader strategy to address economic challenges faced by its residents. By providing affordable goods and services, the state government aims to improve living standards and offer relief to its citizens. The market's success could potentially lead to more similar initiatives in other regions of Sudan.
