The Sudanese Doctors' Union has called for the immediate release of Dr. Mubarak Bashara Ahmed Al-Tayeb, a general physician at Genena Hospital, who was detained by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intelligence on September 26. According to the union, Dr. Bashara was arrested from his home in Genena, the capital of West Darfur. The union stated that it holds the RSF responsible for Dr. Bashara's safety and demands his immediate release.

The union's preliminary committee stated that Dr. Bashara had been working in the emergency department at Genena Hospital since the start of the war, despite the deteriorating health situation. They emphasized that he was carrying out his duties with dedication and activity towards his citizens and family. The union's spokesperson, Dr. Adiba Ibrahim Al-Siddig, appealed for his immediate release without conditions, citing that he was performing his humanitarian duties.

Dr. Al-Siddig also revealed that another colleague is being held by military intelligence in Gedaref. She appealed to international organizations, human rights organizations, the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to pressure both parties to refrain from targeting doctors. The union emphasized that doctors are performing humanitarian duties and should not be involved in conflicts.

The union stressed that doctors are not involved in any conflicts and are only carrying out their duties with dedication. They believe that the role of a doctor is humanitarian and should not be hindered or tarnished with unacceptable accusations. Dr. Al-Siddig highlighted that 21 doctors remain missing, and these practices may push medical personnel to consider migration due to the harsh treatment and exposure to death while performing their duties.

The union's demands come amid a backdrop of ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has led to the deterioration of health services. The union urged the RSF to cease its tightening grip on doctors and health facilities, which affects the healthcare services provided to the Sudanese people. They also called on the international community to intervene and secure the release of Dr. Bashara.

The detention of Dr. Bashara has sparked concerns about the safety and security of medical personnel in conflict zones. The union's call for his release is supported by international humanitarian law, which protects medical personnel and facilities during conflicts. The situation highlights the challenges faced by medical personnel in Sudan and the need for protection and support.

The Sudanese Doctors' Union continues to advocate for the rights and safety of medical personnel in Sudan. They urge all parties to respect the neutrality and impartiality of medical personnel and to allow them to perform their humanitarian duties without interference or harm. The union remains committed to providing healthcare services to the Sudanese people despite the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict.
