Spiro, a recipient of the West Africa Sustainable Award (WASA), has disclosed its growth strategy at the second edition of its Media Connect event in Lagos. The company formally introduced its new Country Head and Managing Director, Prasad Sane, who will lead its operations and expansion drive in Nigeria. The event brought together journalists covering business, technology, mobility and sustainability to discuss the company’s progress and long-term ambitions in the Nigerian market.
Spiro's immediate priorities will focus on Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States, where it intends to expand its operational footprint, improve rider support services and establish strategic partnerships to make electric mobility more accessible. Sane said the company was committed to building a sustainable transportation ecosystem that would provide affordable and convenient alternatives to conventional fuel-powered motorcycles.
Sane explained that his mandate was to position Spiro as a trusted and accessible electric mobility provider, beginning with its three priority markets. He added that the company’s strategy goes beyond deploying electric motorcycles to developing an integrated system that combines vehicles, battery-swapping infrastructure, technical support and partnerships to improve the experience of riders.
A major component of Spiro’s strategy is its battery-swapping technology, which allows riders to replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones instead of waiting for their batteries to recharge. Sane said the technology enables riders to replace batteries in less than a minute, allowing them to resume operations quickly and reduce downtime.
The company believes the model could help address some of the operational challenges faced by commercial motorcycle riders, particularly the cost of fuel, vehicle maintenance and time spent refuelling or recharging. For riders who depend on motorcycles for daily income, reduced downtime could translate into more productive hours on the road.
Beyond consolidating its presence in its three priority markets, Spiro disclosed plans to extend its operations into additional states as it seeks to bring electric motorcycles and related services to more Nigerians. The proposed expansion is expected to be supported by investments in battery-swapping infrastructure, service centres and rider support systems.
Sane also identified strategic partnerships as a key pillar of the company’s growth plans, saying Spiro would deepen its engagement with financial institutions, logistics companies and rider communities. The proposed partnerships are intended to improve access to electric motorcycles and its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) solutions.
