Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has disclosed that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), expressed support for him during a recent meeting. The encounter took place at the RCCG's national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, after Sowore attended the church's National Thanksgiving Service. According to Sowore, Adeboye stated that he regularly prayed for him and believed his ways were pure, which would lead to his triumph.

Sowore shared the details of their meeting during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast. He revealed that Adeboye recognised him and mentioned that he had been praying for him. The AAC presidential candidate recounted that Adeboye told him, "You know, I know you very well, and I pray for you all the time, and I know your ways are pure, and that you will triumph." This conversation took place in the church's vestry, where Sowore was invited for a private meeting with the cleric.

Sowore's encounter with Adeboye also revisited their first meeting in 1996. At the time, Sowore was approaching Adeboye for support in a campaign against cultism in Nigerian universities. Shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, Sowore sought Adeboye's assistance as cult-related activities were becoming a major concern on university campuses. Adeboye supported the initiative and directed that N10,000 be given to Sowore to fund the campaign.

During their recent meeting, Adeboye sought Sowore's permission to pray for him, which he accepted. Sowore mentioned that he would keep his eyes open during the prayer. The two stood up and laughed after the prayer. Sowore clarified that their conversation did not involve a discussion about him giving his life to Christ, as he is not involved in organised religion.

Sowore further explained that he did not discuss his presidential ambition with Adeboye during their meeting. Instead, their conversation was personal and partly shaped by Adeboye's surprise at their previous meeting nearly three decades ago. The AAC presidential candidate had initially been asked to wait near Adeboye's car but was later informed that the cleric wanted to see him in the church's vestry.

In a post on X following the National Thanksgiving Service, Sowore had revealed that Adeboye offered to pray for him during a private meeting. The AAC presidential candidate's disclosure about their encounter has garnered attention, particularly given his non-involvement in organised religion. Sowore's comments provide insight into his interaction with one of Nigeria's prominent religious leaders.

The meeting between Sowore and Adeboye highlights the intersection of politics and religion in Nigeria. As a presidential candidate, Sowore's interactions with influential figures like Adeboye can shape public perception and opinion. The conversation between the two individuals demonstrates a level of mutual respect, with Adeboye expressing support for Sowore's endeavours.
