Nigerian politician Omoyele Sowore has publicly denounced Peter Obi, a former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate, as a "packaged fraud." Sowore, who is also the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), made these allegations on his social media handle on October 30. He specifically pointed to the longest recorded doctors' strike in human history, which occurred in Anambra State during Obi's eight-year administration.

Sowore questioned Obi's claims and promises to establish primary healthcare facilities in every ward if elected president. According to Sowore, Obi failed to prioritize hospital development during his tenure as governor. Instead, Sowore alleged that Obi converted state funds into dollars and stashed them in banks where he held shares and financial interests. This criticism is not the first time Sowore has attacked Obi, who is seeking to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The African Action Congress candidate also urged Nigerians not to support politicians whom he accused of presenting a different image to the public from their actual records in government. Sowore's comments come as Obi and his supporters face scrutiny over the former governor's record in office. In September 2026, Sowore alleged that Obi's former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, knew Obi was a "packaged fraud" when they contested together under the Labour Party.

Sowore claimed that Datti's remarks confirmed what he had previously said about Obi. He recalled the 2023 presidential election Peace Accord signing, where he sat beside Datti and watched him show support for President Bola Tinubu. Sowore further claimed that he had raised concerns about Obi and Datti's political relationship at the time, but their supporters dismissed his allegations.

Meanwhile, Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, recently faced a political controversy in Enugu State. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alleged that the management of Amadeo Event Centre withdrew permission for the party to use its facility for a scheduled town hall meeting. The party had planned to hold the meeting on October 29, with Obi and Kwankwaso expected to address residents of the state.

The NDC alleged that the venue was withdrawn less than 24 hours before the event, despite claims that payment had been made weeks earlier. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah denied involvement in the decision, describing the allegation that he ordered the venue's withdrawal as "preposterous and utter falsehood." Mbah accused the opposition of making allegations to attract public attention.

The governor warned that freedom of expression should not be used as an excuse for defamation. This controversy comes as Obi and his supporters continue to face criticism over his record in office. Sowore's allegations against Obi have sparked a heated debate among Nigerians, with many questioning the former governor's suitability for the presidency.
