Governors from Southeast Nigeria have called on the Igbo people to vote massively for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. The governors, including Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Charles Soludo of Anambra State, made the call during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mega Rally and Empowerment Programme in Enugu. They urged the people to ignore deceit and distractions and support Tinubu's re-election bid to consolidate the gains of his administration's economic reforms.
Governor Peter Mbah emphasized the importance of supporting Tinubu's re-election bid, citing ongoing development projects in Enugu State, including the construction of primary healthcare centers and the federal government's economic reforms. He attributed the availability of funds for development projects to Tinubu's reforms and urged the people to come out and vote for APC candidates in the 2027 elections. Mbah also highlighted the empowerment of women as a key aspect of the APC government's commitment to translating promises into practical interventions.
Governor Hope Uzodimma reiterated the commitment of the Southeast region to supporting Tinubu's re-election in 2027, citing the region's experience of marginalization for over 60 years and the new era of political inclusion and development under Tinubu. He commended the president for expanding infrastructure and economic development in the Southeast and urged the electorate to sustain the current development trajectory. Uzodimma noted that the federal government's economic reforms had increased resources available to states for development.
Governor Francis Nwifuru emphasized that the number one mission for Ndigbo in the 2027 elections was to re-elect President Tinubu, describing the APC as the only party with a clear and identifiable manifesto capable of sustaining the country's development and advancing the course of Ndigbo. He dismissed suggestions of involvement in any political coalition, stressing that his loyalty remained with the APC. Nwifuru urged his supporters to vote for APC candidates at all levels in the 2027 elections.
Governor Charles Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Gilbert Ibezim, said the Southeast has a responsibility to support Tinubu's re-election in appreciation of his administration's achievements. Soludo added that the region stands to benefit more from continued collaboration with the federal government. The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, urged Igbo to embrace political inclusion by supporting Tinubu's re-election, noting that the Igbo had not produced a president of Nigeria in the past 60 years.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, conveyed President Tinubu's goodwill message and urged Nigerians not to be discouraged by economic challenges associated with the President's reforms. She likened the process to childbirth, noting that although the period of labor could be painful, it ultimately led to delivery. The First Lady described the empowerment initiative as an indication of the APC government's commitment to translating promises into practical interventions.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite. The APC government has combined political mobilization with economic support, with the empowerment initiative targeting 5,000 women across the Southeast. The government has also undertaken several development projects, including the construction of primary healthcare centers and smart green schools.
