A unique tea store in Bangladesh has become a tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world. Saiful Islam's Rangdhonu, or rainbow, tea store in Dhaka offers a seven-colour tea that has gained popularity for its distinct layers and organic ingredients. The store's success has been attributed to Islam's ability to acquire a secret technique from a tea vendor in Moulvibazar's Srimangal area.
According to Islam, the seven-colour tea is made by mixing different types of locally and China-grown tea, including three black teas and one green tea, with milk and various spices. Each mixture has a distinct colour and taste, which Islam pours on top of another to create seven distinct bands of colours. The tea costs around Rs. 70, significantly more than the average tea, which costs around Rs. 8.
Despite the process of making the tea being a secret, Islam revealed that no chemicals are used in the drink. A part of the seven-layer drink is created by Islam himself, which is a white layer blended with ginger, and is good for the customer's health. Customers have expressed their satisfaction with the tea, with Joyita, a student of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, visiting the store regularly for a cup of seven-colour tea and a chat.
While Islam is the current proprietor of the Rangdhonu tea store, he is not the inventor of the seven-colour tea. According to reports, the inventor is Romesh Ram Gour from Srimangal, who runs a simple kiosk called the Nilkantha Tea Cabin. Gour's shop is visited by people from far and wide, and it is rumoured that a major Bollywood star once offered to fly him to India and expand his business.
However, Gour refused the offer, saying that he is happy with the life he has. Islam, on the other hand, has successfully imitated the technique and opened a store in Dhaka to sell the seven-colour tea. His store has become a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
The seven-colour tea has gained popularity not only for its unique appearance but also for its organic ingredients and distinct taste. Each layer of the tea has a different taste, making it a unique experience for customers. The store's success has also highlighted the creativity and innovation of Bangladeshi tea vendors.
As the popularity of the Rangdhonu tea store continues to grow, it remains to be seen how Islam will maintain the quality and uniqueness of his seven-colour tea. With its organic ingredients and distinct taste, the tea has become a must-try for visitors to Dhaka. The store's success has also put the spotlight on the Nilkantha Tea Cabin, which is now being visited by people from far and wide.
