The Services Seta and Takealot Group are launching a three-year skills development partnership aimed at creating 20,000 income-generating opportunities in South Africa. The initiative, backed by an initial investment of R103m from the Services Seta, seeks to build practical pathways from skills training into workplace experience, entrepreneurship, and income generation. The partnership is designed to expand participation in South Africa's digital economy. This launch will take place on Tuesday at Ekurhuleni West TVET College.
The launch event will feature a keynote address by Minister of Higher Education and Training Buti Manamela and will bring together government officials, industry stakeholders, and programme beneficiaries. The partnership includes various programmes such as work-integrated learning placements for TVET college learners, critical-skills bursaries, and personal shopper training. These initiatives aim to provide learners with hands-on experience and equip them with the skills required in the job market.
The partnership between the Services Seta and Takealot Group is part of a larger effort to widen access to workplace opportunities and strengthen collaboration between the government, training institutions, and employers. This initiative follows the recent launch of the To the Power of X² Internship Programme, which aims to place 20,000 unemployed university and TVET college graduates in structured 24-month workplace opportunities.
The To the Power of X² Internship Programme was initially launched in North West and is being extended to other provinces. The Services Seta has also partnered with the Mpumalanga provincial government and the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority on a 12-month Real Estate Learnership Programme for 200 young people in the province. This programme aims to provide young people with the skills and knowledge required in the real estate sector.
In addition to the above initiatives, the Services Seta has also collaborated with the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government on a programme that graduated 537 beneficiaries as certified real estate practitioners in March. The Services Seta is committed to creating more workplace opportunities and strengthening partnerships with various stakeholders to achieve this goal.
The launch event will also showcase beneficiaries already participating in these programmes, including TVET graduates, entrepreneurs, personal shoppers, and drivers. This will provide an opportunity for attendees to see firsthand the impact of these initiatives and the potential for growth and development.
The partnership between the Services Seta and Takealot Group is a significant step towards addressing the issue of unemployment and skills development in South Africa. With a focus on creating income-generating opportunities and expanding participation in the digital economy, this initiative has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of many young people in the country.
