Moroccan pharmaceutical group Sothema has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Ramo Pharm, a Casablanca-based company that develops and markets dietary supplements. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including authorization from Morocco's Competition Council. Ramo Pharm was established in 1999 and has built a portfolio of brands sold through Moroccan pharmacies. These brands include Enrouex, ZENmag, Toudex, Hivernex, CD Zinc, and Matervit.
Ramo Pharm's products cover several areas, including ear, nose, and throat care, immunity, stress and sleep, and women's health. The company also has a pipeline of new products to support its future growth. Sothema's acquisition of Ramo Pharm forms part of its plan to organize its activities around four therapeutic areas: general medicine and chronic care, specialty products, dialysis solutions, and wellness and consumer health.
The acquisition will strengthen Sothema's existing brand portfolio, speed up the development and launch of new products, and support international expansion through its distribution networks abroad. The companies also plan to draw on operational synergies to expand the business. Sothema's Chief Executive, Lamia Tazi, stated that the acquisition would lay the foundations for a platform that could accelerate the development of the two companies' portfolios in Morocco and internationally.
Ramo Pharm's managing partner, Karim Akouz, described Sothema as the right partner to preserve the company's approach, continue its growth, and give the business a wider reach. The deal comes after a strong first half for Sothema, which reported consolidated revenue of MAD 1.8 billion ($182.3 million) in the first six months of 2026, up 16% from a year earlier. Net profit attributable to the group rose 11% to MAD 215 million ($21.8 million).
Sothema also launched three products in Morocco during the period, including two in cardiology and one in oncology. The announcement also follows a separate proposed acquisition in Morocco's pharmaceutical sector. On October 22, the Competition Council published details of Laprophan's proposed acquisition of exclusive control of Corporate Investment Holding and its subsidiaries.
The transaction involves markets for drugs and dietary supplements, and the council set November 2 as the deadline for interested third parties to submit observations. The case remains separate from Sothema's agreement with Ramo Pharm. Sothema began operating in 1976 and marks 50 years in business this year. The group manufactures and markets medicines, dietary supplements, and medical devices.
Sothema works with 50 pharmaceutical laboratories through licensing partnerships and sells its own generic and biosimilar products in Morocco, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. The acquisition of Ramo Pharm is expected to further expand Sothema's presence in the region. Key products from Ramo Pharm target health concerns ranging from immunity and sleep to women's health.
