The Société nationale d'exploitation et de distribution des eaux (SONEDE) has announced that the rehabilitation project of the potable water network in Jendouba and Jendouba-Nord municipalities has surpassed 60% completion. According to Rabah Mansour, SONEDE's regional director for the North, the project aims to strengthen water resources in the region and meet the growing needs of residents, particularly in the context of climate change.

The project involves the construction of a second water reservoir in Souala with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, at a cost of approximately 8.020 million dinars. Additionally, two more reservoirs will be built in Beit Ksour and Maawa Jafal, and around 3,500 linear meters of cast iron pipes will be laid. This initiative seeks to improve the water supply system in the region.

As part of the water supply system reinforcement, SONEDE has approved a program to renovate the water distribution pipeline in the Lazag region of Jendouba municipality. The project involves laying 700 linear meters of pipes at a cost of around 420,000 dinars, under the 2026 water economy program. This program also includes the renovation of water intake and distribution networks in Jendouba.

Further projects under the water economy program include the renovation of the water distribution network on 9 April Street in Jendouba. This project involves laying 1,300 linear meters of pipes at an estimated cost of 500,000 dinars, scheduled for implementation in 2026 and 2027. However, the works have not yet commenced due to pending authorizations.

The Jendouba water network project is part of SONEDE's efforts to improve the water supply infrastructure in Tunisia. The project will enhance the water resources of Jendouba and Jendouba-Nord governorates, benefiting the local population. The initiative is expected to address the growing water needs in the region.

Rabah Mansour emphasized that the project is progressing according to plan, with over 60% of the works completed. SONEDE is committed to completing the project and ensuring that the water supply system in Jendouba and Jendouba-Nord meets the needs of the local population.

Once completed, the project will contribute to improving the quality of life for residents in Jendouba and Jendouba-Nord, providing them with a reliable and sustainable water supply. The project's success will also help mitigate the impact of climate change on water resources in the region.
