Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, is the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. With over two decades of legislative experience, Adeola served as senator representing Lagos West from 2015 to 2023 and Ogun West since 2023. He aims to drive industrialisation, infrastructure development, job creation, and inclusive growth in Ogun State. Adeola's vision focuses on ensuring that Ogun State retains more economic value from businesses operating within its borders.

Adeola recently addressed controversy surrounding his indigeneship and change of name. He stated that he is prepared to provide verifiable documents and official records to establish his claim as an indigene of Ogun State. Adeola mentioned that his father was buried in Almosho, Lagos, while his mother was buried at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi. He also cited the burial grounds of his grandmother and great-grandfather, providing specific locations.

The senator explained that he changed his name, and the change was advertised in The Guardian newspaper. Adeola attributed the controversy to attempts to discredit him, stating that his opponents have nothing to offer. He expressed confidence in his abilities, saying that those from Ogun State have responded positively to his candidacy.

Adeola's entry into politics dates back to the June 12, 1993 struggle. He initially became disheartened after losing his younger brother during the related riots. However, in 2002, Adeola re-entered politics, contesting for the Alimosho Constituency position in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He served in the assembly for eight years.

Following his performance in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeola was encouraged to represent Alimosho Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives. He served in this capacity for four years. Adeola's experience in the federal house has informed his vision for Ogun State's development.

Adeola's vision for Ogun State prioritises job creation, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth. He aims to create an environment where businesses operating in Ogun State contribute significantly to the local economy. This approach seeks to reduce the state's reliance on external economic activities.

As the 2027 Ogun State governorship election approaches, Adeola's candidacy has garnered attention. His opponents have raised concerns about his indigeneship and change of name. However, Adeola remains confident in his abilities and the support he has received from Ogun State residents.
