Residents of Dirdiu, Daksami, Kuva Gaya, and Kwakwah communities in Adamawa State, Nigeria, have begun benefiting from electricity following the commencement of power supply from newly installed solar mini-grid projects. The development was confirmed during inspection and verification exercises conducted by officials of the Adamawa State Ministry of Energy and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The projects aim to expand access to reliable and sustainable electricity in underserved communities.

The inspection team, led by Engr. James Yohannah, Director of Transmission, Distribution and Rural Power Access, assessed the commencement of electricity supply to the benefiting communities. The team included Engr. Wamanyi Elias Jalo and Engr. Boniface Bwalamari. In Hong Local Government Area, residents of Kuva Gaya and Kwakwah have started receiving electricity from the newly installed facilities. The Kuva Gaya solar mini-grid has an installed capacity of 216 kWp, while the Kwakwah facility has a capacity of 265 kWp.

Electricity supply has similarly commenced in Dirdiu and Daksami communities following the completion and inspection of their solar mini-grid projects. The Daksami project is expected to extend electricity supply to the neighbouring Gurum Pawo and Gurum Novan communities, further widening the reach of the rural electrification initiative. This expansion will support commercial activities and improve the living conditions of residents in these areas.

The Ministry of Energy expressed satisfaction with the commencement of power supply, describing the projects as part of the Adamawa State Government’s efforts to expand access to reliable, affordable, and clean energy. The solar mini-grids are expected to provide electricity for households, schools, healthcare facilities, and businesses. This development is part of the state’s drive to deploy renewable energy solutions and extend electricity to rural and underserved communities.

The solar mini-grids serve as an alternative for areas beyond the reach of conventional power infrastructure. The projects represent another phase in the state’s efforts to improve electricity access across the state. Residents of the benefiting communities welcomed the development, describing access to electricity as an important boost to their livelihoods and daily activities.

The communities commended the Adamawa State Government under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for supporting infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives. The government’s efforts aim to improve electricity access and support economic growth in rural areas. The solar mini-grid projects are expected to have a positive impact on the daily lives of residents and support commercial activities.

The successful implementation of these projects demonstrates the state government’s commitment to expanding access to reliable and sustainable electricity. The Ministry of Energy and the REA will likely continue to monitor the projects to ensure their effectiveness and sustainability. The solar mini-grid projects will support the development of rural communities and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
