The Sokoto State Government has made a significant donation to the families of fallen and injured soldiers in the state. The donation, which includes N38.25m and various grains, was presented to the beneficiaries by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Bello Sifawa. The gesture is in recognition of the sacrifices made by the soldiers in protecting lives, maintaining peace, and safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country.
The donation includes N1m for each of the 24 families of the deceased soldiers and N250,000 for each of the 57 injured personnel. Additionally, the government distributed 105 bags each of rice, maize, and millet to the beneficiaries. The grains were allocated such that two bags of each grain were given to the family of every fallen soldier, while one bag of each was given to every injured soldier. This thoughtful gesture demonstrates the state government's solidarity with the military.
According to Sifawa, the state government recognises the critical role of the military in addressing insecurity and protecting residents. He expressed the government's sympathy with the families of the fallen soldiers and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery. Sifawa assured them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten and that the government is committed to supporting personnel who risk their lives in the discharge of their duties.
The Garrison Commander, Brig.-Gen. I.O. Amah, received the items on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division. He described the gesture as heartwarming and a source of consolation to the military. Amah said the donation demonstrated the state government's appreciation of the sacrifices made by soldiers in protecting lives and maintaining security.
Amah expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for supporting the military despite the competing demands of governance and security challenges facing the state. He prayed for divine wisdom and strength for the governor and other leaders to steer the state towards greater development. The Garrison Commander also prayed for the military to overcome criminal elements responsible for insecurity in Sokoto State.
The donation serves as encouragement to the military and the families of personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of duty. Sifawa was accompanied by the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd), and other government officials during the presentation. The state government's gesture is a testament to its commitment to supporting the military and their families.
The Sokoto State Government's donation is a significant step towards recognising the sacrifices of soldiers in the state.
