The Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has announced that six public and private secondary schools have made it to the final stage of its annual tax club quiz competition. The competition, held in collaboration with the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, aims to promote tax awareness among secondary school students. The six finalists will compete for the grand prize of N2.5 million at the grand finale scheduled for November 4, 2026, in Ilorin.

The semi-final stage of the competition, which took place on October 7, 2026, was conducted online via a computer-based test (CBT). A total of 12 schools participated in the semi-finals, with students taking the test from the comfort of their respective schools. According to Funmilayo Oguntunbi, head of the corporate affairs department at KWIRS, the exercise was monitored by members of the KWIRS tax club advocacy committee and a representative of the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Aina Bose Eunice.

The six schools that emerged as finalists are Oro Grammar School, Oro, and Ansar-u-deen College, Offa, from Kwara South; Government Secondary School, Lafiagi, and Government Secondary School, Ilesha Baruba, from Kwara North; and St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin, and Ebenezer High School, Ilorin, from Kwara Central. These schools will compete for the top prize at the grand finale.

The tax club quiz competition is an annual initiative of KWIRS aimed at deepening tax awareness among secondary school students and fostering a culture of voluntary tax compliance among the younger generation. By engaging students in a quiz competition, KWIRS hopes to educate them about the importance of taxation and encourage them to become responsible taxpayers in the future.

The competition has been organized in collaboration with the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, indicating a strong partnership between the revenue service and the education sector. This partnership highlights the importance of tax education in the school curriculum and the role that schools can play in promoting tax awareness among students.

The grand finale of the competition is scheduled to take place on November 4, 2026, in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of N2.5 million, a significant reward for their knowledge and understanding of tax concepts. The competition is expected to inspire students to learn more about taxation and its importance in national development.

The KWIRS tax club quiz competition is part of a broader effort to promote tax education and awareness in Kwara State. By targeting secondary school students, the competition aims to instill a culture of tax compliance from a young age, which could have long-term benefits for the state's revenue generation and economic development.
