The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has been authorized to investigate allegations of serious maladministration and corruption in the Buffalo City municipality. The amendment will enable the SIU to probe two tenders meant to provide sanitation facilities at the Sicelo Shiceka informal settlement. The investigation relates to the procurement of goods, works, or services for 150 ablution and sanitation infrastructure and facilities at Sicelo Shiceka informal settlement.
The SIU will also investigate the procurement of 180 walk-up units at Sicelo Shiceka Extension 5. Furthermore, the amendment expands the scope of the investigation to include 100 ablution and sanitation infrastructure and facilities at Bekkersdal. This move is expected to uncover any possible irregularities in the procurement process and bring those responsible to account.
