The second edition of the Salon de l'innovation de l'industrie du BTP en Afrique (SIIBA BIM Afrique) kicked off on November 5, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The event, themed "Transformation numérique et innovation dans le BTP et le ferroviaire : quels leviers pour le Burkina Faso ?", brings together sector stakeholders to discuss modernization and infrastructure development. Over three days, attendees will engage in panel discussions, training sessions, experience sharing, networking, and innovation presentations.
According to Fabrice Yangané, promoter of the salon, the initiative aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to identify solutions to improve the sector. The goal is to showcase and share innovations in the construction sector and explore solutions for the railway industry. Yangané emphasized that innovation is not limited to software or digital tools but also includes adopting new work methods and professional practices.
Achille Roland Sow, president of the special delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso, highlighted the significant role of the construction sector in the national economy. The sector employs numerous companies, creates jobs, and improves living standards. However, it faces challenges related to project quality, cost control, deadline management, and professional training. Sow sees innovation as a crucial response to these challenges.
Sow stressed the importance of digital tools, innovative materials, prefabrication, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in addressing sector challenges. These solutions can reduce errors, improve project quality, and enhance transparency. He emphasized that technology alone is not enough; it requires solid competencies, structured companies, and collaboration among public authorities, private sector, universities, and professional orders.
The event also focuses on valorizing local competencies and materials. Sow advocated for better access to innovations for small and medium-sized enterprises, enabling them to participate in major national development projects. This, he believes, will help drive growth and development in the sector.
The railway sector in Burkina Faso is underdeveloped, presenting an opportunity to build modern infrastructure that meets current standards. Sow sees the railway as a competitiveness lever, reducing freight costs, securing corridors to ports, and supporting agricultural and industrial sectors. The SIIBA BIM AFRIK 2026 event provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss and explore these opportunities.
The second edition of SIIBA BIM AFRIK 2026 will run from November 5 to 7, 2026, at the Ouaga 2000 conference hall. The event features various activities, including panel discussions, training sessions, and innovation presentations. Key stakeholders, including government officials, private sector representatives, and industry experts, are expected to attend and share their experiences and insights.
