Senior Nursing Officer and mother of three, Salomey Awiti Baffoe, has been reunited with her family after being granted GH¢100,000 bail in connection with the ongoing 'Ghana Jollof' case. The 40-year-old nurse from Techiman was arrested at her home in Hansua, near Techiman, in September and subsequently charged with abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to Salomey's uncle, Kojo Asiedu, although Salomey appears well after her release, the family is yet to have her examined by a medical specialist to properly assess her health. The family is grateful for the help they received in establishing Salomey's whereabouts during her detention. Mr Asiedu expressed appreciation for the media's role in helping the family locate Salomey and follow developments that led to her release.
Salomey's return home has brought immense relief and joy to the family, particularly her two children who had not seen their mother for some time. Mr Asiedu stated that when her children saw her, they welcomed her with happiness, and it was a joyful moment for the family. Salomey's mother had also been deeply affected by her absence and had stopped eating, but is now willing to eat.
The case against Salomey stems from her alleged links to Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as 'Ghana Jollof'. Police allege that Salomey acted as a liaison and helped recruit people to redistribute videos produced by Ms Kodua on various social media platforms. The allegations have not been established in court, and Salomey has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Asiedu expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding Salomey's arrest, saying the family initially feared she had been kidnapped. He appealed to the government to ensure that security agencies follow proper procedures when making arrests, as the manner in which Salomey was taken into custody was worrying.
The family remains concerned about Salomey's health and intends to have her assessed by medical specialists. Mr Asiedu stated that they will hand her over to medical specialists to check on her health and ensure that her health situation is stable. Salomey's family is also grateful for the media's intervention in her case.
Salomey's case has been adjourned to a later date, and she remains entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case proceeds. The family is hopeful that the case will be resolved soon, and Salomey can continue her life without any further disruptions.
