J&C Farm Limited, a rapidly growing poultry business in Uganda, is seeking a highly organized and commercially minded Senior Accountant. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day finance function, supervise an accountant, and ensure accurate financial records. The role requires comfort working in a lean finance team, ownership of the full accounting cycle, and translating financial information into practical insights for management. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring effective treasury and working-capital management, timely reconciliations, robust financial controls, and reliable financial and management reporting.
The Senior Accountant's key duties include overseeing accounts payable and receivable processes, reviewing supplier invoices and customer balances, and maintaining accurate supplier and customer ledgers. They will also manage the company's day-to-day treasury operations, prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts, and coordinate payments to suppliers, staff, and other beneficiaries. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will perform and review regular bank, mobile money, customer, supplier, and other balance sheet reconciliations to ensure all finance records are complete, accurate, and up to date.
The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for inventory and fixed asset management, maintaining accurate and up-to-date inventory and fixed asset registers, and coordinating periodic stock counts and physical verification of fixed assets. They will prepare timely monthly management accounts and financial reports for management, covering revenue, costs, profitability, cash flow, working capital, and other key financial indicators. The Senior Accountant will provide management with financial analysis and insights to support operational and business decisions.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver accurate and timely monthly financial and management reports, timely and accurate bank, mobile money, and balance sheet reconciliations, and effective management of payables, receivables, and cash flow. They will also maintain accurate and complete stock and fixed asset records, ensure strong compliance with internal financial controls and approval procedures, and provide timely and accurate financial information for management decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field, at least 2 years of relevant experience in a Senior Accountant, Accountant, or similar finance role, and at least level II ACCA or CPA. Strong Excel skills and familiarity with QuickBooks online ERP are also required, as well as experience working in an SME, audit firm, agriculture, FMCG, or other operational business environment.
