Senegalese author Cheikh Diop has published a collection of poems titled "Poèmes verts de Bango" which explores his childhood memories. The book, published in 2025 by Edisal, is a nostalgic reflection of his youth in Thilmakha Mbackol, a region in the ancient kingdom of Cayor. Diop's writing style is characterized by innocence and a sense of wonder.

The collection of poems delves into Diop's experiences as a child, describing the sunsets, forests, and dry bushes of his native village. His writing also touches on his time at the École militaire préparatoire (Emp), now known as the Prytanée militaire Charles Ntchoréré de Saint-Louis. Diop's poetry aims to capture the beauty of everyday life and leave a lasting impression of his era.

Diop's work also explores historical themes, including the story of the first Damel of Cayor and the bravery of Amary Ngoné Sobel Fall. His poetry is marked by themes of solitude, boredom, travel, and hope. The collection was initially presented to Présence africaine, which encouraged Diop to revise his work before publication.

Diop began writing poetry at a young age, during his time at Mbédiène, where he was transferred to prepare for the entrance exam to the Emp. Despite the challenges he faced, including the disappearance of his teacher, Diop continued to study and write poetry. He attributes his success to his dedication, recalling that he was the top student in his class by the end of the first semester.

Born in 1954 in Thilmakha Mbackol, Diop holds multiple diplomas in science, technology, and philosophy. He is a former student of the Prytanée militaire Charles Ntchoréré de Saint-Louis and currently works as a trainer at several health schools in Dakar, including the École nationale de développement sanitaire et social (Endss).

In addition to his writing, Diop is also a painter, influenced by the works of Vincent Willem van Gogh. His artwork is characterized by vibrant colors and a focus on depicting everyday realities in Africa. Diop has authored several books, including "La Teranga pour Modou" and "Insomnie rebelle".

Diop's publication is one of several recent releases from Senegalese authors. His work has been recognized by various publications, including Le Soleil, which has featured his poetry alongside other notable authors.
