The administrative authorities and local stakeholders of Thiès region in Senegal have validated a mobility plan designed by the Conseil exécutif des transports urbains durables (CETUD) to facilitate traffic flow between competition sites during the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar. The plan aims to guarantee smooth circulation, enhance road safety, and ensure the security of the population during the event scheduled from October 31 to November 13, 2026.

The 2026 Youth Olympics, set to take place in Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, requires meticulous coordination of movements to link the various competition sites. The mobility plan is intended to provide an operational response to the challenges of traffic fluidity, road safety, and management of people and vehicle flows. According to Saer Ndao, the governor of Thiès region, the success of this initiative relies heavily on the effective mobilization of all stakeholders.

During a meeting to present and validate the plan, several observations were made regarding the necessary deviations to reorganize traffic, with particular attention to road safety and population protection. The governor emphasized the need for prompt implementation of the plan to allow for the deployment of measures within the given timeframe. He also stressed the importance of proximity communication to enable the population to understand and adapt to the envisaged measures.

Gora Sarr, the director-general of CETUD, highlighted the participatory approach that led to the validation of the plan. He stated that the involvement of all stakeholders allowed for the collection of necessary observations before finalizing the document. This consultation with administrative authorities and local actors is considered essential to guarantee the effectiveness of the measures envisaged on the ground.

The plan's implementation will require close coordination between competent services, territorial authorities, and structures responsible for organizing the event. The observations made during the meeting will be integrated into the stabilized version of the mobility plan before its deployment on the ground. According to Gora Sarr, the deployment of measures is scheduled for the following week, in coordination with the Comité d'organisation des Jeux olympiques de la jeunesse (COJOJ).

The successful implementation of the mobility plan is crucial to ensuring the smooth running of the 2026 Youth Olympics. The plan's operationalization will enable the implementation of measures relating to circulation and parking. The authorities aim to limit disruptions that may affect traffic during the event period.

The validation of the mobility plan marks a significant step in the preparations for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar. The event is expected to attract delegations, officials, and spectators, and the plan's implementation will be critical in ensuring a safe and secure experience for all participants.
