The National Office for Sanitation of Senegal (ONAS) has successfully met over 98% of its commitments for the organization of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, according to its Director General, Séni DIENE. On October 30, 2026, DIENE announced that his teams had completed most of the tasks assigned to them. The ONAS teams have been working tirelessly to ensure that the sanitation and wastewater systems are functioning properly in areas such as the Medina, Point E, and the Olympic Village.

DIENE, accompanied by a delegation from ONAS and the press, visited several sites to inspect the work done by his teams. The areas visited included the Medina and Point E, where ONAS has deployed five controllers for permanent surveillance of the network. The ONAS teams have also carried out additional work, including the cleaning of the canal on Rue 9 in the Medina, which was completed with a 100% execution rate.

In the Gueule Tapée area, ONAS achieved a 90% execution rate for the cleaning of the canal, and the flow of water has been restored. The teams also upgraded two wastewater networks along the Gueule Tapée canal, achieving a 60% drying rate. These works were carried out following a visit by the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane DIEYE, who noted that the manhole covers had been removed.

ONAS replaced the manhole covers along the Gueule Tapée canal with a 100% execution rate. Additionally, ONAS successfully connected two collection points to the ONAS network at Place du Souvenir, with a 100% execution rate. The cost of these connections was covered by the Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (COJOJ).

The ONAS works were carried out with a budget of 250 million Francs CFA provided by the Senegalese government. The ONAS teams will continue to work on the sanitation and wastewater systems during the games, with trucks deployed to aspirate any potential wastewater reflux around the competition sites.

The ONAS Director General expressed satisfaction with the work done so far, stating that his teams have fulfilled their commitments. The successful execution of these tasks will contribute to the smooth operation of the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar.
