The Senegalese National Police celebrated "Octobre Rose," a month-long awareness campaign against breast cancer, on October 6 at the Abdou Diassé camp in Dakar. The event featured free cancer screening and consultations for police personnel and the general public. The ceremony was presided over by the Director-General of the National Police, Mame Seydou Ndour, and attended by the Chinese medical mission. The highlight of the event was the inauguration of a new maternity ward at the police health service.
The celebration took on a special significance at the Abdou Diassé camp, where police personnel and their families benefited from various health services. These included screening for breast and cervical cancer, free consultations, vaccination of children aged 9-14, and a blood donation drive. The maternity ward, which was inaugurated as part of the event, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and will cater to the healthcare needs of police personnel and the local population.
The event was organized in partnership with the Chinese medical mission and had as its marraine, retired police commissioner Aby Diallo. Commissioner Binetou Guissé, head of the Police's Gender Division, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the health of female police officers. She encouraged women to make screening a habit, saying, "Se faire dépister, ce n’est pas avoir peur de la maladie. C’est choisir de prendre sa santé en main" (Getting screened is not being afraid of the disease, it's choosing to take control of your health).
Commissioner Guissé also paid tribute to Aby Diallo, who was instrumental in paving the way for future generations of female police officers. Diallo expressed her joy at witnessing the progress made by the police institution since the integration of women into its ranks over four decades ago. She congratulated the police on the inauguration of the maternity ward and wished it success in meeting the healthcare needs of its personnel.
Director-General Mame Seydou Ndour highlighted the significance of the event, saying it demonstrated the police hierarchy's commitment to prioritizing the health, well-being, and dignity of its personnel, particularly women. He expressed satisfaction with the modern equipment at the maternity ward, which will benefit not only police personnel but also the local population.
The event was part of a broader effort to promote healthcare and well-being among police personnel in Senegal. The police institution has taken steps to ensure that its personnel have access to quality healthcare services. The inauguration of the maternity ward is a testament to this commitment.

The Senegalese National Police's initiative to organize free cancer screening and consultations, along with the inauguration of the maternity ward, demonstrates its commitment to promoting the health and well-being of its personnel.
