The Senegalese government is set to strengthen its efforts towards a more inclusive and sustainable digital landscape. On September 29-30, Dakar will host two national workshops focused on the accessibility of digital public services and responsible electronic equipment management. Organized by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital, with support from GIZ, these workshops will bring together various stakeholders from Senegal's digital ecosystem.
The first workshop, scheduled for September 29, will focus on the theme "ICT & Disability". With approximately 797,000 people living with disabilities in Senegal, the issue is crucial. As public services become increasingly digital, the lack of accessibility features can create additional barriers to administrative procedures and online services. Participants will discuss ways to address these challenges.
The second workshop, on September 30, will address e-waste and responsible digital procurement. The rapid growth of electronic equipment due to digital transformation has led to an increase in electronic waste, posing new challenges for collection, repair, recycling, and environmental management. Stakeholders will explore solutions to mitigate these issues.
The workshops will not only feature discussions but also practical activities. On September 29, participants will conduct an express audit of several online public services to identify potential accessibility obstacles. The following day, they will work on developing a responsible digital procurement guide to help administrations and organizations integrate environmental criteria into their digital equipment and solution acquisitions.
A diverse range of stakeholders, including public administrations, digital sector enterprises, disability representative organizations, repair and recycling actors, universities, and civil society representatives, are expected to attend the workshops. The goal is to develop operational recommendations that can be directly implemented by concerned administrations and actors.
