The Ministry of Land, Air and Transport in Senegal has deployed an extensive mobility plan for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) opening ceremony at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio. The plan aims to facilitate the movement of spectators to and from the event. As part of this initiative, all public transportation services, including the Train Express Régional (TER), Dakar Dem Dikk buses, and the GTS train, will offer free rides to those with a valid ticket to the ceremony.
To ensure smooth transportation, the TER will operate at increased frequency, with departures every 8 minutes from Dakar to Diamniadio. For passengers traveling from Thiès, the GTS line will provide two direct departures to Diamniadio at 15:00 and 15:40. Additionally, a network of special shuttle buses will be available from several strategic locations, including the Monument de la Renaissance, Grand Médine, Arène Nationale, Stade Amadou Barry, Keur Massar, Thiès, and Mbour.
The shuttle buses will operate between 13:25 and 17:45, with the final arrival at Diamniadio scheduled for 18:15. To manage the influx of vehicles, the authorities have designated specific access roads and parking areas. The public is advised to use exits 10 and 12 on the A1 highway, while exit 11 will be reserved for emergency services and accredited personnel. Designated parking areas for private vehicles include P13, P14, and P15.
To help spectators plan their journeys, the Ministry of Land, Air and Transport has developed a real-time orientation tool. The "CETUD mobilités" application and the montrajetjoj.sn platform will provide up-to-date information on transportation schedules and routes. This will enable spectators to adjust their travel plans accordingly and minimize disruptions.
The 2026 YOG opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 31 at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio. The event is expected to attract a large audience, and the Ministry's comprehensive mobility plan aims to ensure that spectators can travel safely and conveniently to and from the venue.
The Ministry's efforts to provide free transportation and a robust mobility plan demonstrate its commitment to supporting the success of the 2026 YOG. By providing a range of transportation options, the Ministry aims to reduce congestion and promote a smooth and enjoyable experience for all spectators.
Overall, the 2026 YOG is expected to be a major event in Senegal, and the Ministry's mobility plan is an essential component of its success.
