Senator Abdulrahman Suleiman Kawu Sumaila has unveiled a three-year scorecard of his achievements in Kano South, showcasing various interventions across the constituency. The scorecard was presented at a public accountability session organised by the Kano State Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in collaboration with his office. This session aimed to provide a platform for the senator to share his accomplishments with the public.
According to Senator Kawu, his office has drilled 6,090 tube wells to expand dry-season farming in the area. This initiative has enabled more farmers to engage in agricultural activities and improve their livelihoods. Additionally, about 1,297 hectares of farmland were restored to irrigation, further enhancing agricultural productivity in the region. These interventions have covered all 16 Local Government Areas and 171 political wards in Kano South.
In the healthcare sector, Senator Kawu's office has provided over 1,000 hospital beds and mattresses to improve healthcare infrastructure. Moreover, more than 400 patients have undergone free surgical operations, showcasing the senator's commitment to enhancing healthcare services for his constituents. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to improve the well-being and quality of life for the people of Kano South.
Senator Kawu's scorecard also highlights significant investments in education and infrastructure. A total of 1,082 students from less-privileged backgrounds have benefited from scholarships and monthly stipends, while several primary and secondary schools have been renovated. Furthermore, over 3,700 solar-powered streetlights have been installed to enhance lighting and security in the area.
The senator's office has also made notable strides in infrastructure development. Work has resumed on a 19-kilometre dual carriageway, and 11 bridges and culverts are being constructed. Additionally, 16 erosion and flood-prone sites have been rehabilitated to mitigate the impact of natural disasters on the community. These projects aim to improve the overall infrastructure and safety of Kano South.
Under various empowerment schemes, Senator Kawu's office has distributed 915 vehicles, 449 sewing machines, tricycles, and motorcycles to constituents. These initiatives aim to empower individuals and groups, enabling them to engage in economic activities and improve their livelihoods. The senator has urged the people to assess his performance based on the projects and their impact.
